Samsung Metal Co. started its business as an associate of Hyundai Motor in 1987. Since setting up a corporation in 1996, it has taken forth consistent efforts to achieve the clear goals to enhance the auto-parts industry and to reconsider the international competitiveness up to the point of becoming a specialized company that produces and supply various parts such as both manual and automatic transmission, engines, AXLE, etc. Supplying domestic major automobile companies such as Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, GM Daewoo, and Volvo Construction & Machinery Korea, the quality of Samsung Metal Co. products has been recognized, and as it also supplies major parts manufacturers such as Hyundai Mobis, Korea Power Train, Korea Flang, and Hwashin, and the technology skills have received much recognition and gained public favor. In 2001, the head office was founded at the 2,400 pyeong sites in Waegwan industrial complex, Chilgok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, and the whole staff has taken whole-souled effort to reform into "21 century's international specialty manufacturer of auto-engines and drive parts." When it was selected by Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials as a promising small/medium sized enterprise in 1999, the possibilities to grow were recognized once again, and the business performance as well was confirmed when it won the excellent performance prize in the Gyeongbuk Small/Medium Sized Enterprise Award. In 2000, Samsung Metal Co. got approval for the TS16949 Quality Management system, which proved the best technology skills in the area of auto-parts. Furthermore, the company was granted the ISO 14001 Environment Management system certificate in the same year, which showed that it was a corporation caring for environment and humanity.
